Family room/playroom

A few posts back I talked about loving your enemies. I made forgiveness a big part of my Lenten journey and as Easter draws near, I am failing horribly. I was doing well for a while. I had found some peace in my heart, but there is just something holding me back from letting it all go completely. I am struggling, but I know that peace will come if I can just let it be. {The Beatles know their shit.} I wish it was as easy to practice as it is to preach.

Today was pretty fantastic! The Littles and I met Sheri and her daughter L at the library for a play date  and then stopped by Wendy's for some lunch. The Littles has nuggets and I had the new Asian Cashew Chicken salad. It was pretty tasty. The spicy chile dressing was awesome. The Littles had a great time! Mason has not stopped talking about L, and how much he wants to play with her again, since we left lunch. I also had a blast talking with Sheri! I am so glad to have started to make some new friends in town, especially ladies as lovely as Samantha, Susan and Sheri.
I just realized you all have S names...

I have been working on getting our extra room set up with something that I can live with. We recently found a craigslist couch and over sized armchair, in spectacular shape, for $100. We couldn't pass up a deal like that! So we traveled to Columbia to pick them up and brought them home to make our extra space into a family/tv/play room.

It's not a super big room, but it's cozy and it gives the kids a place to play so I don't have to constantly haul baskets of toys up and down the stairs, and couches they can monkey around on without hurting themselves{as Pickle did when he smashed his face into the arm of our living room furniture}.
I am also okay with getting my TV off of the fireplace mantle too.
I like the way we have it set up now, but I felt like it was missing something. I whipped up some letters out of a Puffins cereal box, scrapbook paper and a touch of glitter and voila! a splash of fun for the family/tv/playroom.

I also have a really fun pink chevron fabric that I will be making some curtains with too!
What projects are you working on??

10 mile run {on purpose!}

Have you ever had that moment when you're in the shower and you've brought your coffee cup with you and you are just in shower heaven? So you go to shampoo your hair. While you're lathering you realize that you have recently cut 9 inches off of your hair and the amount of shampoo you used to use, that was fit to shampoo a small army of cocker spaniels, is no longer necessary and it takes you 10 minutes to rinse the insane amount of shampoo you used out of your now chin length hair. Just me? Excellent.

This morning Sam, Susan, Katie and I dominated 10 miles! And by dominated I mean survived. But it was awesome!

It was my longest distance that I have ran so far. I am pretty stinking proud. If you read this post, it talks a little bit about my weight loss so far, but this is a little different kind of pride.
I am pretty sure if you would have told my 18 year old self that I would EVER run 10 miles in a row, on purpose, I would have laughed at you. Or punched you...I used to be a little scrappy. In fact, in 8th grade I walked the Presidential Fitness mile to "stick it to the man" that no one could make me run. I thought I was punk rock. Turns out I am, but more so because I just ran 10 FREAKIN MILES! I know that there are a lot of ladies out there who can run faster, farther and harder than me, but today, I am so proud of my running accomplishments. I am also getting really excited about the half-marathon in May! I will be running my first half-marathon 3 days before my 26th birthday. Happy Birthday to me! Who would have thought that me, the flute playing, marching band member, choir singing, cookie dough eating, former 220 pound lady, would ever be excited about purposefully running 13.1 miles, in a row.

Thrift Store Saturday #6 and Bloody Mary Bites

I hope everyone is having a great weekend! We have had a pretty great one so far.
Today Matt worked with his dad at the meat shop and then headed to Springfield to pick up his truck and haul home the rest of our junk we had floating around still.
I flew solo with the Littles and we thrifted all morning. They were champs! {mostly thanks to peanut butter crackers ;)} I scored some great deals.
I LOVE this dress from Target!{The tags were still on!}

I found a pair of Seven For all Mankind jeans for $12!

I also found a pair of black Lauren Conrad leggings, two cardi's and a darling 3/4 length tee.
All in all, it was a pretty great trip.

After our thrifting trip we came home for lunch and got in early naps for the Littles so we could head to Lucy's for my sister-in-law Anne's ItWorks party. I made some of my favorite snacks to bring.
Bloody Mary Bites!

These babies are so good! Even people who don't like green olives like these.

All you need is celery, cherry tomatoes and green olives. Cut celery and tomatoes into bite size pieces, skewer and serve :) You could also toss them in a little vodka if you're feeling frisky.

{Low Cal} Peanut Butter Pie

Happy Friday!! I am so glad that the weekend is here. I feel like this week has been a little crazy.

Wednesday before I got my hair cut off, I stopped by Lucy and Mark's(my in-laws) house to see their almost finished bathroom remodels. They look fabulous! It makes me antsy to start working on some of our home projects. Lucy and I stopped by JC Penney's home store so I could help match some rugs and towels for their master bath. We went with a dark mocha and I really like the way they look. {I hope you do too Lucy!}

Yesterday I cleaned the house, took a library trip with the Littles, went shopping with Lucy again for guest bathroom items, found some super sale curtains for the dining room, picked up Matt from the house after work and met my parents, Aunt and cousins at Arris' for dinner.{the BEST pizza in town!} It was so nice to see them! We had a blast!
A quick shot of the dining room curtains.

Tonight something sweet sounded so good. So I made peanut butter pie. I know, you're thinking "Meg! NO! You have had a kick ass week!" but never fear, it is LOW CALORIE peanut butter pie!

Easy{low calorie}Peanut Butter Pie:
8 servings at 240 calories per slice

3 cups no sugar added, low fat vanilla ice cream{I used Bryer's}
1/3 cup peanut butter
1 chocolate pie crust
1 TBSP sugar free chocolate syrup

Mix softened ice cream and peanut butter together until smooth. Spread into pie crust. Top with chocolate syrup. Freeze {at least 2 hours} and enjoy. Top with sugar free whipped topping and some crushed pretzels for a sweet and salty twist :)

Oatmeal Cookie Smoothie

For Little Friday, I am linking up with the lovely Ashley from The Grits Blog and Paige from A Dose of Paige
Little Friday

Tonight I stepped out of my comfort zone just a smidgen. I cut 9 inches off of my hair.
I will be sending this lovely ponytail to Pantene Beautiful Lengths. Cancer is terrible and if there is something I can do to alleviate someone else's pain and discomfort, even in this small way, I am honored to do so. If I can help someone else feel beautiful, or at least normal, in a time of turmoil it is worth this tiny ponytail. It doesn't seem like much, in the grand scheme of things. I wish that I could do more. I wish that I could take on some of the pain of those suffering from cancer, especially for my grandma, who lost her hair this week and starts her second round of chemo. For now, this is my small step to help kick cancer's ass.

Also, I got my eyebrows waxed for the first time in my life. Why haven't I done that sooner?! Sherri at Studio 1 Salon is amazing! Oh, and we're neighbors. Small world right?! I hope we're in for a girl's night soon with my sassy new hairstyle!

I cooked a lot today, but most importantly I made the best smoothie that I have ever had in my entire life. It tasted like an oatmeal cookie. I mean, exactly like an oatmeal cookie. Like, I have found a replacement for my Oreo obsession, it is that GOOD!

Oatmeal Cookie Smoothie:
1/4 cup oatmeal
1/2 frozen banana
1/2 cup coconut milk
1 tsbp raw blue agave nectar(or honey)
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
a pinch of ginger
a pinch of nutmeg
a pinch of salt

Pulse oats a few times. Add all other ingredients. Blend until smooth. Enjoy in your fave glass. Lick the glass when you're done.

exploding phones.

Today did not go as planned. I had a lovely day thought out with a trip to the library and completing a few small projects around the house. Instead we spent 3 1/2 hours at AT&T getting a new phone because mine exploded. It stopped recognizing a network. I could take photos and connect to WiFi, but I couldn't text or call anyone.. The poor kids did so well though!

Since that literally took all morning, I accomplished very little today. Tomorrow we will try again. Bring on the library! Hopefully tomorrow will be even warmer than today too.

Tomorrow my grandma starts her second round of chemo. She is finally feeling better from her first round, so it sucks royally that she has to start all over. She had her head shaved yesterday too. I haven't seen her yet, but I have talked to her twice and she seems in good spirits. I am afraid that seeing her with no hair will make this all seem even more real than it currently does. She has been so strong through all of this. She is the best lady I know.

My sweet Buggy is getting so big. Girlfriend repeats everything we say and everything her "bobo" says too. Have you seen the commercial with Old MacDonald? You know, the spelling bee commercial? "Cow, C-O-W-E-I-E-I-O... {buzzer} dagnabit!" Well both Pickle and Bug's LOVE this commercial and quote it all day long. When P starts, Bug's follows and she runs through the house yelling DAGNABIT! Hilarious!
Look at this face! Pure trouble!

Baby Easter Dress

For the first time in a while, I am welcoming Monday with open arms. Matt is back from out of town, I am almost back to normal after my weird itch fest last week and I am back on track with my weight(134 this morning!). Taking Saturday to reorganize, refocus and prep for this week made a huge difference. I am pumped about our menu for this week! That definitely helps making healthy choices easier, especially since we spent yesterday afternoon/evening at a Birthday party for Pickle's cousin-friend C, so I didn't have time to prep yesterday.

Yesterday morning I met Samantha, Susan and Susan's daughter for a 6 mile run. It was hilly. I only almost died once. Those ladies kick some serious ass! Next week is a 10 miler. Hopefully it's warmer than it is currently. Either way, I am pretty excited about it. By excited, I mean dreading it until after it's complete of course. I have a love/hate relationship with running. I hate it, but I love the way it makes my butt look.

Today I feel like I have done a lot, but really I have just started about 6 projects. I did manage to start and finish Buggy's Easter dress though! I found a super fun fabric a few weeks ago at Joann's and I thought it would be perfect for Easter.
And then it promptly sat in my fabric stash for a {long} while.. But today I got it out and MADE THE DRESS! Take that productivity.

I started out with a clearance onsie from Kohl's. I used this tutorial and it was super easy and most importantly, it turned out so cute!

I have some extra fabric, so I am going to make some hair bows for Bug's hair to match. She is growing up so fast. I can't wait to try this on her after nap!

Since it is so stinking cold again, I am back to treadmill running. Come on nice weather, I really want to go outside. I have to get back on the fitness horse now that I am mostly recovered. I think I might Jillian Michael's this week too. She kicks my butt every time.

Thrift Store Saturday #5 {thrifted style post}

No matter how many times I straighten my house, it perpetually looks like a small toddler tornado has blown through. I currently see a shoe, a bubble wand, a bus driver haphazardly laying face down next to a smiling Little People bus and my hairbrush. Pickle is tall enough to reach most things in the house now, and if he can't, he gets his stool out just to spite me. This equals trouble more often than not. Also, I walked into the dining room to set the table for dinner and Buggy was sitting on top of the table, right in the middle. I walked in and she held up her tiny hand and said "Hi!" with the most princess-y wave she could manage. She was not pleased when I made her get down, but for goodness sake, we've already lost one tooth and she's not even 2!

Today I took some time to meal plan! I organized our refrigerator and pantry and took inventory of our freezer. I haven't meal planned for the last couple weeks and it was definitely effecting our budget and our eating habits. I posted last week that mom bought me a snazzy new cookbook, so I am making a new recipe from it every day this week. I did most of our shopping at Aldi, per usual, but I ran by Schnuck's and picked up a few things to shake up our normal menu a little. I bought some kale, plantain chips, and a few other things that Aldi doesn't carry. I am so ready to reinvigorate our usual menu! I think part of my binge eating trouble lately is just boredom with eating the same things over and over. Tonight we had pork ribs, poppy seed coleslaw and the best twice baked potatoes I have every had and they were all low calorie! I didn't get a picture, but never fear, I will make them again soon and give you the recipe too.

I didn't make it out to thrift today since I organized the kitchen and went grocery shopping, but I had on a thrifted outfit that I LOVE!

I still look a little patchy, but I am on the up and up!

Today's Thrifted Outfit
Polka dot top: American Eagle- $2
Boyfriend Jeans: American Eagle-$3
Cardigan: Forever 21- $3
Sugar Skull Shoes: Target

I love thrifting! You can find so many great things if you just have a little patience. Maybe I will have a chance to thrift a little tomorrow after my long morning run. We are running hills tomorrow. Wish me luck! Samantha and Susan might have to bring the car around to pick me up. I haven't run very much this week since I am recovering from the unexplained rash. I am ready to lace up my tennis shoes and bust out 6 miles.

Protein "Frosty"

I forgot how much I love The Office. Michael Scott, you are freakin hilarious. "I wouldn't say I'm superstitious, but I am a little stitious."
I truly believe that laughter is the best medicine. There is nothing better for your heart, soul and well being than a good dose of hilarity.

Today was so nice. Spring is official and I am so excited. We spent some time with my mom this afternoon in the sunshine playing at the park and feeding the geese. Pickle is big stuff and he can maneuver the big kid playground like a pro. He can climb all of the ladders and slide on the big slides all by himself. He's not even 3 yet! Buggy rocks at the toddler playground too. I have such brave, independent Littles.

I didn't run today, but I did treat myself to an "after run special" of mine. {No judgement, it tastes like a Wendy's Frosty}

Protein "Frosty"
1/2 frozen banana
1 scoop chocolate protein powder
1/4-1/2 cup milk of your choice (almond, coconut, skim)

Throw all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Start with 1/4 cup milk and add more depending on your desired thickness.

This is my favorite treat right now. Also, a banana freezing tip: peel bananas, cut them in half and lay them on wax paper covered baking sheets. Place in freezer for one hour. Throw all of your bananas into a freezer bag. They won't stick together!

Happy Friday Loves!

Cats: The Sad, Poison Truth.

So I have decided that I have some kind of poison plant affliction. {Poison ivy, oak, sumac..} The only possible thing I can conclude is that on two of our walks last week I met a cat {that I obviously pet, both times} and here I sit now covered in blistery, itchy, grossness. And Matt has it too on his chest, exactly where I rest my head and hand at night. Sorry Love! I will now always scrub every part of myself after petting cute cats that approach me from the underbrush along the Missouri River. Weird lesson learned universe, you can stop the itching now.

Moving on! I literally have done nothing for the past two days. I don't care if people think I have some kind of leprosy, I will be leaving the house today...and trying not to scratch too much in public.. The Littles are so stir crazy{who am I kidding, so am I!}. Since today is the first day of Spring, we are going to enjoy it! I don't know what exactly we are doing, but you can bet it will not involve strange cats. Tonight we are going to Grandma Lucy and Papa Mark's house to BBQ, so that will be a lot of fun.

I am so ready for Matt to come home. He has only been gone since Tuesday morning and I am counting every minute until he comes home. He doesn't have to leave town very often, but it sure makes me adore the hell out of all of my military family friends who have to spend years apart. You guys are all effing amazing!

I am also going to run today. I am dreading it, but I haven't moved my lazy butt since Monday, so poison skin or not, it is on. Maybe I can sweat some out?! Wishful thinking right? I have got to work off the ice cream I have eaten..

There is a reason itchy rhymes with bitchy..

It's everywhere. My eyelids, behind my ears, all extremities, behind my knees and literally every other piece of my body. I'm talking everywhere..

I don't want to talk this into the ground, but this allergic reaction is making me fucking crazy. Thank God for PBS kids. My Littles are on a TV overload and I am way too itchy, bitchy and uncomfortable to change that today. Keep on keeping on Super Why. I cooked them bacon and eggs for breakfast, so they're fine right?

In my rashified state, my eating has been crap. I hope Jesus doesn't mind that I bought {and ate half of} a container of ice cream. Sorry Lent, I have let you down.

Once I don't want to itch off all of the skin on my body I will focus on healthy eating. Right now I am just camped out on the couch and willing the Benedryl to work. I managed to shower without dying and proceeded to smother myself in itch cream like it was Calgon. Take me away hydrocortisone.

This post is brought to you by Steroids.

What a crazy couple of days we have had.

Sunday it snowed. It was 70 degrees on Saturday, but Sunday the snow fell anyway. I was so annoyed. Lock it up Missouri.
Matt helped his dad haul chickens down to Westphalia, so I flew solo with the Littles to church. After church I went running with Samantha and her friend Susan. We ran the track at the YMCA. It was a blast! I'm so glad to have running buddies! Especially when the weather sucks and running on the treadmill sounds like a torture device.
When I got home from running, we headed to my parents house to hang out and eat corned beef and colcannon for St. Pat's. It was fantastic! My mom should start a catering business. She's an amazing cook!

Yesterday I spent the day cleaning. Why I even try to clean my house while my toddlers are here is a mystery to me. When Matt got home from work we picked up his dad and we headed up to Columbia to pick up a craigslist couch. Pickle made a friend while we were loading the couch. This little boy was 5 and P just stuck to him like glue. Pickle also rode his new friends big boy bike! I was so impressed. He's not even three yet, but he is so big! I guess he will be getting a bike for his Birthday.
He was distraught that we couldn't stay and that he probably wouldn't see his new friend again. I do have his parents numbers... How creepy would that be!!? "Hey, I bought your couch and our boys became best friends, want to make a play date?" I might do it anyway.
I love our new furniture. It is perfect for our tv/playroom.

Today we made a fun trip to urgent care. I don't know what I got into or what I ate, but I am having the worst allergic reaction to something. I have a rash all over myself. It's on my arms, legs, neck, stomach, feet, face, scalp and my gums. My gums! I am currently doped up on a steroid injection and benedryl. I look so pretty.
I put a little makeup on to cover some of the patches on my face. I didn't want to start a panic in urgent care.
The only thing I did differently yesterday was eat some peanut butter Puffins cereal. I don't know what happened. All I know is that I itch and my ass is killing me where they gave me my steroid shot.
Matt is also currently out of town until Thursday night. It will be an entire week of pajamas, benedryl, hydrocortisone and tv time for the Littles. Hey, at least we have a nice couch in our tv room now!

Thrift Store Saturday #4{St. Louis Edition}

What a fun day! Mom and I left this morning around 7:30AM, jammed to 80's tunes, and got to St. Louis around 9:30AM. We stopped at the Goodwill in Chesterfield Valley first and it was awesome! I will totally drive 2 hours to go back to their location. They had a HUGE selection and way more reasonable prices than our Jeff City location. Mom didn't even get bored! I was shocked at the amount of great things I picked up.

American Eagle Boyfriend Jeans

Gap shorts

J.Crew dress

Banana Republic Trouser Jeans

BCBG blouse

I scored a perfect robin egg blue skirt, and an H&M dress, but I forgot to snap a separate picture of them. I found a swimsuit for Bugs, a cute top and a pair of spring-y shorts. I also found a spiderman swim suit for Pickle, and two pairs of Carter's shorts.
My grand total for my Goodwill trip was $36.84. I had to ask the nice cashier twice for the total because I was expecting almost double the amount. Mom thrifted a pair of Miss Me jeans too. It was a super successful Thrift Store Saturday. I am ready to do it again. I love bargains.

After our Goodwill stop we headed out to The Future Antiques, which is a really cool vintage store that specializes in 50's decor. It was also Pyrex Heaven. I walked in and immediately thought, "just take all of my money, this is amazing and I will have one of everything". Mom found some Salte and Peppy's and she also purchased a piece of pink Pyrex for me, because I am spoiled and she is awesome. I love Pyrex.... and my mom.

Post Pyrex purchase we stopped in at Crate and Barrel. I almost picked up some awesome glassware, but I didn't. I just couldn't commit and now I am sad that I didn't just grab them. Oh well. There's always next time right?

We ate lunch at PF Changs{hello chicken lettuce wraps and spring rolls}. It was fantastic. I wish we had one closer to us!

While we were stuffed from lunch we stopped by the World Market and then Trader Joe's. I am pretty excited about everything I picked up. I hope it will pull me out of the "food funk" I am in and revamp my excitement about eating healthy since I have new things to try. Mom also ordered me a cookbook a while back and it came in the mail yesterday, so I am pretty excited to try some{all} of the recipes.
So far I love everything I have seen. The recipes all seem simple and so good.

Tomorrow is a long run day with my cousin-in-law Samantha and her friend Susan. I am pumped. I can't believe I have been running alone for a year. It's way better with friends!

My Friday in GIF's

I ate 5 cookies last night. This morning I threw the rest of the cookies and the cookie dough away. Get outta my house calorie fest. I am 5 pounds up now. That puts my current weight at 140.

Honestly, for the amount of junk I ate this week, that's not a terrible number. I was expecting much worse, which is probably one of the justifications for the 4th and 5th cookie. Today is a new day. I will do better. If you have MyFitnessPal, let me know so we can be friends.

I am so ready for tomorrow's Girl Day in St. Louis, that I have pretty much checked out of today already.

My Trader Joe's list is getting pretty long. I have to make the trip count, because we probably won't make it back until May. I am really pumped about going thrifting tomorrow too. I love checking out new places. I am really hoping to score some good cat related items.{yeah, you read that correctly}

Bugs has decided that her new favorite thing is stripping off her clothes and running around in her diaper. Luckily this has only happened at home so far, but I am waiting for the day we are in Aldi and she whips down her pants.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

my fall off the wagon.

The Grits Blog
It is Little Friday link-up time with Ashley at The Grits Blog and Jessa at Life of a Sports Wife and I have a giant confession.
I have fallen, headfirst, off the wagon.
I'm talking mint oreos{have you ever had those??}, cheeseburgers, fries, chocolate chip cookies, giant portions, and excuses every day this week.
This cannot continue. I haven't gained yet, but I am on track to do some major gaining if this doesn't end here and now. I am stress eating. I know I am stress eating. It doesn't make it any easier to stop the binge. I will not go back to my old life.

This is not me anymore.

I remember how miserable I was then. I hated myself. Every time I binge now, I feel guilt and shame and disgust. I know better. I am better than this. I am better than this binge. I have got to pull myself out. This is me standing up for myself, against myself. I need to be accountable to someone since I am having so much trouble being accountable to myself. I am now accountable to everyone who reads this blog post.
This is where I am and it is where I want to stay.

I have lost 85 pounds. I will not go back. I cannot go back. I will take one step at a time until I am back on track. I will not give up. I will count every single calorie, even when I know I am over for the day. I will hoist myself back onto the wagon and then I will lead the wagon in a damn parade.

Do you have any tips or tricks for binge eating?
How about tips for staying on track?

Oatmeal Raisin Bread(bread machine recipe) and landscaping.

The birds are out in full force today and my cats are running through the house from window to window, trying in vain to pounce on their winged enemies. Every once in a while I will hear Luna jump at the glass door on the sun porch. Nymphadora has posted herself currently on the back of the sofa and meows in 30 second intervals. It's amusing, but a little sad that I can't let them outside to chase the birds. Nym is about to get her head stuck in the blinds though, and that would just be all around amusing.

Today is cold. Yesterday was 76 degrees, today is 45 degrees. Spring is a big ole tease. Yesterday we spent all day outside. We went by Papa Toby's meat shop to say hello and pick up some things from Matt's auntie and then we headed to the park. It was gorgeous. We ate a picnic lunch and played until I could tell both kids needed a nap.
While the kids slept, I brought the baby monitor outside and raked up the leaf stragglers that have refused to be blown out of our yard all Winter. I also dug up a few more clumps of pompous grass that plague our front "garden". Whoever landscaped this house just mounded up a bunch of dirt, threw some seeds in and called it a day. They also ignored it for the next 8 years. When we bought the house, you couldn't even see our front porch.

This is what is looked like after we cut it down (the first time)

This is what it looked like sans front pompous grass

And here is the weird mounded side yard in progress

If you can tell, there is a random shovel handle in there that we discovered after digging into the weirdness. I am ready for it to be real Spring so we can till up the mounded dirt and start planting things in some kind of order and not on a giant hill at the edge of our yard.

After nap, we went back outside and played on our slide and blew some bubbles. When Matt got home we fired up the grill and BBQ'd some chicken for dinner. I love being outside.

While Matt gave the Little's a bath, I started some bread in my new{to me} bread maker. My Grandma gave it to me last weekend and I have been in desperate need of some oatmeal raisin bread, so I decided to make some.

Oatmeal Raisin Bread(bread machine recipe):
12 slices at 153 calories per slice.

1 cup water
2 Tbsp margarine or butter spread
1 1/2 cups oatmeal flour(I just put 2 cups of quick oats into my ninja and made my own)
1 1/2 cups AP flour
2 Tbsp sugar
1 1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp cinnamon
1 packet of yeast (or 2 1/2 tsp)
3/4 cup raisins

Layer ingredients as listed into your bread machine. Turn it on. Select normal setting, choose crust setting(I just did a medium crust) and hit start. Enjoy delicious, healthy bread.

Wow, how have I lived without a bread machine?

my messy house and a thrifty recap.

How many times can a person rearrange their furniture before it becomes a problem? If the answer is less than 20, then I am in trouble. It was 70 degrees yesterday and we spent all day outside. Vitamin D must have caused my brain to malfunction because at 8PM I decided that I hate how our extra room downstairs is set up. So I set to work moving all of my craft supplies upstairs, and tasking Matt with finding us some Craigslist furniture to restore to turn the extra room into a tv/playroom{like I wanted to when we first moved in- I should always listen to myself, I am rarely wrong ;)}. So here I sit in the morning aftermath of my decision and I have an almost empty room downstairs, a brain full of ideas and the tiniest budget a person could have. Awesome. Luckily, it is supposed to be 80 degrees today, so, for today, it can wait.
We will walk to the park, enjoy the sunshine, have a picnic, and do some playing and I will not think about this mess waiting for me at home.
Or the fact that there is snow in the forecast for tomorrow... because both things crush my soul.

In case anyone was wondering if we made it back out to thrift a little on Saturday, we sure did! We hit up Goodwill, because it was the only thing open by the time we made it back out. Our Goodwill can be really overpriced, so it is hit or miss for good deals. Matt actually found the perfect shelf for our kitchen!
I had already started painting it before I realized I hadn't taken a before picture.

We had been looking for anything without hearts in, on, or around it. What is with the hearts carved into shelving? Anyway, this will be perfect and it was $6. We were pretty excited. Thrifty Saturdays are my favorite! This week's Thrift Store Saturday post will be about my finds while we're in St. Louis. I am so excited for our trip!

7 mile run{I did it!}

This is the face of a very unimpressed kitty.
This is also the face of a kitty who is making typing extremely difficult.

Matt and I had so much fun at the comedy show last night! It was hilarious! I ate way too much fried chicken and drank a little too much beer. Couple that with "springing forward" and my 5:45 alarm was rough. I got up anyway and forced down a banana and a giant glass of water and got ready to meet Samantha at the Katy Trail for a 7 mile run. With the time change it was still dark when I pulled into the parking lot, but it lightened up pretty quick. I was super nervous. I usually run by myself, and I have never run more than 5 miles{in a row}. We got started and it was awesome! I had such a good time! It was nice to talk and focus on something other than how much longer I had to go.Running isn't exactly a super fun sport, but it was a whole lot better with good company. I ran 7 miles. I can't believe I just typed that sentence{and not sarcastically}. Every single time I run, I just want to call up my old gym teachers and blow raspberries at them{mature right?}. I never thought I would be able to call myself a runner. In fact sometimes I still feel like I'm not good enough to call myself a runner. That is so far from the truth. Being a runner isn't about how fast you can go, how far you can go, how many races you have entered or won. Running is about getting up, putting on your shoes and just going for it. I am not the best runner, but I am a runner. It's pretty effing cool. After we ran our miles, we stopped by Panera for some much needed coffee and to warm up a little. I had a really good time{thanks Samantha for the invite!}. I can't wait to do it again.

Thrift Store Saturday #3

I love thrifty Saturdays. Today's haul was pretty slim and a little random, but the Littles weren't digging being cooped up in shopping carts, so we called it done a little earlier than usual.
Check out this fantastic Halloween cat sweater that I scooped up for a whopping .50 cents.
If I could fit into this, I would literally wear it every day. This is probably my favorite thrifty find so far.

I also picked up a cute pair of sandals and a nice Carter's top for Bug's and two wooden bunny sit-arounds that I am going to pretty up for Easter.
I spent $3.75 total.
I am hoping to squeeze in one more small trip before the day is over.

The Littles are spending the night with Grandma Lucy and Papa Mark tonight. Matt and I are heading to a dinner and comedy show in Westphalia this evening and I am pretty darn excited about that. Hello fried chicken dinner and adult humor.

I squeezed in a tiny run this afternoon. I am not too worried though because I am joining my cousin-in-law Samantha on a long run in the morning. I am so excited! Not so much for the running portion really, but for the company to run with. It will also be nice to get off the treadmill.

Did anyone else thrift this weekend? Tell me about your deals!

roasted sweet potatoes and onions and reese's pieces.

Have you ever wondered what 51 pieces of Reese's Pieces look like?

That's it folks. That tiny baby food bowl full, is 190 calories. Depressing. Even more depressing, is that I hand counted these 51 pieces. Oh calories, thou art a heartless bitch.

We finally made it to the library! We desperately needed some new videos. I was really tired of Bear in the Big Blue House - It's Potty Time. We have successfully returned it and have moved on to Yo Gabba Gabba - Dance Dance Party. I'll take it. When we got to the library, we were the only people in the kids area for about 25 minutes and the Littles had free access to all of the toys and books. It was like a toddler Christmas.
Pickle is playing with trains and Buggy is sitting by herself at the table playing with puzzles.
Eventually an abnormally large{for our small town library} group of people started gathering in the kids area. Apparently on the first Friday of every month there is a Story Group for kids 2 and under. It sounded like fun, so I forced Pickle to set down his trains and come with Bugs and I. You would have thought I was murdering him instead of encouraging him to participate in a group activity. Eventually he gave in and wouldn't you know it, he LOVED it. Both Littles did. There was singing and dancing and clapping and then bubble blowing to cap it off. We will definitely try to remember next month.

I ran during nap time. It wasn't terribly exciting. I listened to early 00's rap and ran about 3 miles. I almost forgot that Nelly is a fellow Missourian. I know right, how is that possible? He's from the Lou and he's proud. Me too Nelly, me too.

Tonight we made a trip to Target to buy Pickle his new InnoTab games he earned for not having any accidents for 2 weeks. He got to pick one from us and one from great grandma. He chose Mickey and Bubble Guppies. He would not let them go. We also all bought new shoes. Buggy was so precious. I tried a few pairs on her and when I pulled out the pink, sparkly, bow laden pair she got so excited and just kept saying "shoes!" and holding her foot out like the tiny princess she is. Adorbs.

Since today is Friday that means no meat. Tonight for supper I made grilled fish fillets with garlic butter sauce{it was just a prepackaged fish, but it was really tasty}, roasted onions and sweet potatoes and grilled asparagus. I am a firm believer that everything is better roasted.

Easiest Sweet Potatoes and Onions:
Serves 4, at 80 calories per serving.

2 small sweet potatoes
1 medium yellow onion

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Cut veggies into equal sizes. Toss together. Spray with cooking spray, stir again to coat. Bake for 40-50 minutes until fork tender. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

I still had a huge amount of calories left for today, which brings me back to Reese's Pieces. I hope your Friday night is just as wild as mine.
